There are two things that Americans take for granted: nice
summer weather and reliable internet connections. Both have been hard to come
by these first few days in Spain.
These past three days in Salamanca have been the exception
to the traditionally warm summer. With suitcases full of summertime necessities
all the American students rushed to buy the classic (touristy) Universidad de
Salamanca hoodies. Needless to say, we refrained but our wardrobe was still
less than ideal. Thank goodness for rain jackets, Chacos, and indoor ice cream
shops. With the weather actually beginning to look like July maybe we’ll have the
chance to break out our attempt at European clothing.
Wifi [we’ – fee] :
The ever elusive, much desired connection between Spain and everywhere else.
Often found by American students at McDonald’s.
La Universidad has fabulous
Wifi but since we are in school from 2 – 7:15 am (CDT) it’s practically
pointless. Gives us the chance to scroll through yesterday’s Instagrams and to check
the trip Facebook group to see where we will be heading that night. However,
leaving school means losing our connection to the world; we are Wifi-less here are
Paseo de Canelejas. Flori has an Android hotspot we can sometimes catch, but
that is almost as common as seeing a typical Spaniard eat dinner at 5 (we
normally eat a 10:30…).
Moral of the story be thankful for the sun and especially
quality Wifi.
