Three-hour bus rides are not for the faint of heart, however
our bus sleep game is on point. Thankfully we can always count on our compañeros
for stories, laughs or just random commentary. Our group is great. Also graduate
student supervisors (babysitters) make for great entertainment as well.

Shout out to our favorite friend to date: Felipe. A seasoned
international traveler, he always has his sleeping mask on hand (around his
neck) and what we think is mostly true knowledge about his homeland of Spain.
Bless him for tolerating our travel antics and endless questions that we are
certain he does not know the answer to. “Felipe, when are we going to
AutoGrill?”
Despite the cold, rain, and tour guide Fernando, we enjoyed
our day trip to Burgos. Affectionately known as “Freaking Fernando,” he loves
to give long-winded explanations in really fast Spanish and always be in
charge. At one of the stops he was usurped by a tour guide from the site and to
say that he was devastated is an understatement. Need we say that was the best
tour of the day?
Felipe and Fernando provided great entertainment, but
century-old monasteries and cathedrals stole the show.

These buildings are more than twice the age of the United
States as a whole. With that in mind this whole Europe thing is really starting
to sink in.
Back to school tomorrow for our first full week, but most
importantly back to siestas.
